Piper is one of my theological heroes and I don’t consider myself worthy to untie his sandals. Still, I’m perplexed by his characterization of Christians concerned about CRT as “folks fighting racism in their own way”. It’s simply patronizing & false. https://www.desiringgod.org/interviews/critical-race-theory-part-1
Nobody who’s ever brought up CRT w/ me has said - “Let’s talk about CRT so we can end systemic racism”. On the contrary, they almost always bring it up to counter concerns of systemic racism in the US from BIPOC folks. This only gives more ammo to the deniers of systemic racism.
I know a number of white Pastors who’ve been slandered & labeled as “Marxist“ for teaching their members to love their Black neighbors by mourning & fighting systemic racism. CRT concerns have permeated the Church and are being used to block meaningful dialogue on racial justice.
Bottom line: CRT concerns are being brought up in the Church not to foster meaningful dialogue on racism but to distract from the concerns & lived experiences of BIPOC Christians. Yes, CRT is a worldly, imperfect theory. Still, it’s largely brought up to gaslight BIPOC believers.
