It’s been 24 hrs since I watched the finale and I feel like if i don’t get my thoughts out there any sooner than now, i might just explode.
Please don’t read this thread if you haven’t watched the show yet. Kaya kung hindi pa, google it NOW.
Also, will just drop my thoughts randomly across this thread so pagpasensyahan if makalat

Can I even not start this thread without discussing ACTING??
Usually kasi, BL employs young actors who are relatively new to acting & uses the popularity they gained to propel their career in preparation for roles that matches their sexual orientation.

That’s how it is for most Thai BL actors. But Bilkin and PP? Halfway through the show, I was itching to google their acting background because their performance was UNBELIEVABLE. I was like who tf are these two? San ‘to napulot ng Nadao Bangkok??
Such talented rookie actors, it felt like they’ve been acting for years. And it’s not just ability to cry on cue, it’s also the nuanced performance, the ability to convey extreme emotions through subtlety - with just stares, facial movements, and body language.

Pero syempre acting prowess is only complimented with excellent direction. You remember the scene when Teh travelled to Oh-Aew’s resort to hand him over the Chinese idiom book he made? That scene when Oh-Aew descended the stairs until they hugged below the staircase?
PUTANGINA kinilabutan ako. As in pumalakpak ako after. No words were said but the way Oh-Aew pulled back from the kiss & the way he walked, the way they rested their heads on each other, UGH. Kung tutuusin ang tagal nung scene & I was holding my breath THE ENTIRE TIME.
The way the scene was choreographed deserves an Academy. I watched the documentary on Youtube and PP was even said to improvise some parts of the scene. And the talent of the leads & the director was only accentuated by phenomenal writing that trusted these talents.
The way they wrote scenes to depict the growing attraction between the two leads thru subtle touches & lengthy scenes that do not hold too much conversations, the way they portrayed the growing sexual attraction thru the obsessive sniffing of the coconut scent....
The way they wrote scenes about self discovery & frustrations thru that PHENOMENAL red bra scene and when Teh masturbated to his childhood idol
I can’t help but cry just from being reminded of how POWERFUL those scenes are.

And when was the last time I cried not because of sadness but because of how unbelievably beautiful a scene is? When Teh translated the verses of Skyline to Oh-Aew at Promthep Cape, that’s when I knew i was in deep trouble. Distracting lang yung pabago bago yung lighting.
The second time I cried from being overwhelmed was during THAT underwater kiss. The fact that it’s so beautiful and tragic at the same time, that they can only share a kiss where it’s hidden from everyone, that they need to pull away from the kiss because they’ll be out of breath
Also, kudos to the director for shooting in the actual sea! Even kdramas dont do that. When someone jumps into the Han River or any body of water, it’s always obvious that it’s a pool. Dito, they committed in showing corals as a foreground of the scene.
Aside from the fact that Bilkin and PP had to learn diving for this alone, the documentary revelaed how difficult it was to shoot the scene. I hope Bilkin and PP knows that their efforts paid off and is already one of the best BL moments of all time.
But more than performances & writing, EXECUTION talaga ang best aspect of this show. Kasi kung tutuusin, hindi naman bago yung tema ng self discovery on puberty. Also, it’s not like it’s the first the time that such story is being told.
But to treat every episode like it’s a movie in terms cinematography, that’s the impressive one.
There were a lot of times I found myself wanting to take a screenshot because the frame was UNBELIEVABLE.

Aminin, you only see these kinds of cinematography in movies and they do not usually pour so much money in BL productions.
The cinematography of this one can compete with kdramas, no joke. Props to Nadao Bangkok for giving what the immense talent of the team and actors deserve.

And even the small technical details such as the yellow color grading that matched well with the theme and gave the melancholic and nostalgic vibe I assume they wanted to achieve. Production design complimented this as well!
The fact that it was set in Phuket Old Town, that they live in old wooden houses, that classrooms are not modern looking, that there are no computers in sight. But this vintage laidback look is put side by side with the use of group chats & IG stories.
Actually nung nagparinigan sila sa IG stories ewan ko kung matatawa ako o maiiyak
My point is the contrast between the “old” and the “new” is interesting. They obviously wanted to invoke the nostalgia but doesnt want to alienate its modern audience to make it more relatable.

And can we talk about the musical scoring?? One of the best i’ve witnessed in a TV series
Hanapin ko later ang scorer nito. And btw Nadao uploaded the original score in Youtube! Sulit ang Youtube music because i’ll only be listening to Skyline Orchestra from now on.

Another commendable thing about the show is its format. YES TO SHORTER SHOWS tayo mga kapatid. Besides, how much a show could impact you is independent of it’s length. Take this show as an example and how much my life has changed after only 5 episodes

But i’ve read that it was originally written for 10 eps which is actually a relief because at least we know the intended length of the show includes the story of Season 2. At least hindi pilit just to profit off of the huge fanbase that was formed.
If you ask me what I didn’t like about the show, of course it would be hypocritical of me to say wala. For one, the crying became too excessive for my taste na at some point naging distant ako sa pinagdadaanan nung characters.
