like it feels like a bit of a catch 22 because cis men write a character that if they existed irl would almost certainly be trans, represent her harmfully, and then when trans women complain they're like well actually they're a t--p so technically it's not about you

like you have a character like bridget or gwyndolin who were amab but were "raised as a woman" for weird in universe reasons so that cis men can get their confusing boner without having to complicate things with anything resembling how real genders work

What you have to reckon with about these characters is that in real life people get punished for presenting as not their assigned gender so they're going to have a deeply held conviction about what they're doing, unless they're just doing it as an outfit for a drag show or porn

It's so transparent. you could pull a similar slight of hand with any slur or prejudice. It's the rhetorical equivalent to "she breaths through her skin"

Like I know this exactly mirrors a real life prejudice about a group of people but actually this is a fictional person who the prejudice is true for so technically it's not prejudice

There's also this whole kinda pedophilic aspect to the whole t--p thing because unless an amab person is on hrt, once they're out of their teens they're usually not gonna pass anymore and then they don't work as a titillating sex fantasy for straight men

And like nobody is going to go through all of the trouble of hrt/maybe surgeries/hair removal/etc unless they have some very compelling reasons to do so and "my mom thought it was bad luck for me to be a boy" is NOT one

It's the "it's ok shes not a minor she's actually 300 years old" of gender
