I'm reporting from @NASBTT's Annual Conference today on behalf of @tes, bringing you all the latest news from the teacher training world. Tune in for updates throughout the day 👩‍🏫👨‍🏫 #NASBTTEvents
First up is Helen Matthews, specialist adviser for ITE at @Ofstednews #NASBTTEvents
Matthews says she is "very proud" of Ofsted's focus on early reading #NASBTTEvents
The new ITE inspection framework focuses on quality of education and training, rather than old "proxies" - such as completion and employment rates, says Matthews #NASBTTEvents
Matthews says, as a reminder, inspections are starting from January 2021. So they are going ahead as planned, at least for ITE. #NASBTTEvents
Hold on, Matthews now saying she's not able to say the "exact date" of the first ITE inspection. Says the word "from" - as in "from January 2021" - is important in the above statement. So no clear-cut answers today. #NASBTTEvents
However Matthews says when inspections do start, they will be done in a "sensible and safe" way #NASBTTEvents
Matthews says Ofsted wants to "keep everybody safe" amid the Covid-19 pandemic - including HMI, ITT staff and trainees #NASBTTEvents
Next up is an official from @educationgovuk. She says she knows there is "more to do", but innovation and flexibility shown by the ITT sector during the Covid-19 crisis has been "remarkable". #NASBTTEvents
DfE official says the department is developing contingency plans for "significant disruption", in case of further hurdles caused by Covid-19 next year. And the DfE is seeking feedback on its response so far #NASBTTEvents
DfE official says the surge in interest in teaching is "good news", but past experience tells us this will drop off when the economy recovers. "It is a time when difficult trade offs need to be made," she tells the conference #NASBTTEvents
Conference taking a screen break now - I'll pick up on this thread from the @tes account shortly! #NASBTTEvents
