A big day for fans of elite sport, as my team of Olympian gods takes on @alycett1's Literary Detectives XI in the first round of the @AuthorsCC book cricket tournament.

The gods have been practising hard in the nets on the Elysian Fields, batting, bowling, fielding...
Demeter - she's doing the tea. https://twitter.com/saelcho/status/1331159516713541633?s=20
Less than an hour now until the start of The Big Match. Aphrodite doing her warm up routine, Dionysus enjoying an isotonic sports drink... #OlympianCricket
Whispering Death, as he’s known. We’ll be opening with his lightning quick pace. Hermes - a slippery bowler with a whole bag of tricks - opens at the other end. https://twitter.com/williamhdunne/status/1331220895449444355
The Olympians win the toss and put the Detectives in. Hades (aka 'Whispering Death') to bowl the first ball of the match to Inspector Maigret. Lord Peter Wimsey batting at number 2.
Athena is wearing the helmet at short leg - where she’s just caught Precious Ramotswe off Aphrodite. Maigret also gone, run out by Hera. Detectives 36-2.
Wilson's tedious insistence on getting the scorebook right... https://twitter.com/jonawils/status/1331239540460281857?s=20
Detectives bring up their 100 for the loss of 5 wickets. Poirot & Lord Peter Wimsey building an ominous partnership. Hades brought back to try & break it. I’ve taken 2 wickets.
Sorry, make that 3 wickets. Lord Peter Wimsey out lbw for an elegantly crafted 50.
One for the Christie fans: Poirot and Marple are currently batting together.
Zeus not happy. The wristy St Mary Mead veteran using Hades’ pace to pick off a boundary in the final over.
That's it. Detectives 157-8 off their 20 overs. Lord Peter Wimsey top scorer with 53. Poirot and Marple contribute a feisty lower order partnership.

Now it's time for the Olympians to bat. Poseidon and me to open.
Blocked. https://twitter.com/meolscop1978/status/1331247803809607684?s=20
Poseidon run out in the first over. The earth shakes as he hurls his bat through the pavilion window. Artemis in at number 3. In the hunt for a big score.
Artemis playing a blinder of an innings. Into the 40s already. The Detectives' bowling is like unto bulls' testicles slung around her neck...
Artemis brings up the hundred with a delicate dab, then I am out to a highly controversial lbw decision for 35. Gods are 100-2, chasing 157.
Pleased to announce that Artemis and myself compiled what was - so far in this tournament of @AuthorsCC book cricket - a record partnership.

Meanwhile, Zeus, lord of the heavens, father of gods and men, captain of the Olympians' XI, comes to the wicket - AND IS IMMEDIATELY OUT!
Apollo joins his twin at the wicket.
Damn, was hoping the twins would see us home, but with only six needed Artemis is out for a brilliant 79 - the top score of the tournament so far.
And there it is! Apollo and Athena see us home! Gods beat Detectives by 6 wickets, and go into a massive team huddle.

TOTAL LEGENDS.
Huge thanks to @dodo938 for organising the @AuthorsCC book cricket tournament, and that match in particular.

THE GODS WILL BE BACK!!!
