Short thread. The current ‘ war’ in Labour is odd to watch from the ‘ soft left’ sidelines where I stand. The party should continue to explore and adopt radical policies on economics and climate change. Some (not all) of work done by @johnmcdonnellMP et al remain relevant.
Some won’t work in my view - financial transaction tax, IOF. But 4 day week, infrastructure, skills agenda and facing up to automation. But the Party must eliminate anti semitism completely-totally and utterly defeat it. For good.
It must separate the radical policies on climate change etc, which we all support, from members from all parts of the party who have allowed racism to infect the party. There are lots of good MPs, of the left , who are unblemished on racism.
The shadow front bench should nurture and include these MPs, encourage their radical thinking. They should also continue zero tolerance of anti semitism. The policy agenda of the last 5 years needs to be divorced from the former leader.
You can be radical, left wing and still feel disgusted at what our Party was becoming and how our Jewish friends felt. Labour can rebuild as both radical and a party where all feel welcome. But it needs to hold the line on zero tolerance for anyone. End thread
