1) I read the Wikipedia page. I don't know much about his personal politics, but I have really mixed feelings about Mayorkas' appointment based upon his record. https://twitter.com/Shoegazeenjoyer/status/1330993426389741568
2) On one hand, he's likely to be a real damned hero to refugees, aspiring documented immigrants, & DACA recipients since he LITERALLY put DACA in action in 60 days, no one could unravel Trump's fuckery faster. But...
3) Both as Director of US Citizenship & Immigration Sevices & DSHS it sounds like he's also the one that did the labor which earned Obama the title Deporter in Chief.
4) I think the criticism of his Cuban ancestry is...misplaced. Whether he has regressive personal politics or not, he is the one that negotiated with the Fidel Castro in the early phases of Obama's change in Cuba policy. So...at least he'll do his job.
5) In short, it appears Biden is trying to erase Trump's immigration legacy as fast as possible and Mayorkas is the best person for that job. He's efficient af. BUT going back to 2016 means going back to a bad deportation regime, & I worry what he'll do to non-DACA undocumented.
6) I should probably give this thread on Mayorkas a hashtag. #BidenHarris2020 #BidenCabinet #TransitionToBiden #BidenTransition #BidenTransitionTeam
