A short thread: I think today is a good day to address the issue of "colonizers stepping into the affairs of Nigeria". I& #39;ve use the screenshots as reference because they& #39;re the two I& #39;ve seen pop up on my TL.
Nigeria is a member of the commonwealth bloc and is a party to the "commonwealth charter". The Commonwealth Charter is a document of the values and aspirations which unite the Commonwealth.
If you& #39;d recall yesterday, a few of the MPs noted this as a reason for their involvement in the debate. Furthermore, members of the charter are also expected to hold eachother accountable. This is done so as to uphold the & #39;principles of democratic societies and promoting peace.& #39;
Countries in the west & #39;pride themselves as upholders of democracy& #39; this means whenever they sense or see anything undemocratic going on they try to meditate. (Yes, we know this isn& #39;t balanced but this isn& #39;t the conversation here)
The charter is explicit on "human rights" (this is because of the role western countries played in the birth of democracy). See here

So this isn& #39;t "reporting yourself to your colonizers" but a case of members holding eachother accountable using an instrument they created/signed together.
