Months later, Kanyeâs on again-off again ex-fiancee Alexis Phifer & he finally called off the engagement entirely. This combined with Kanyeâs mother passing away sent Kanye into emotional turmoil.
Kanye West then set out to use this emotion to create a new sound. Something that was different from the norm. He seeked out T-Pain & upcoming star Kid Cudi for help with writing & the use of autotune.
On release, critics did not heavily favor it.
However, it turned out to be a massive success, sparking the hit âHeartlessâ and influencing an entire generation, with stars such as Drake, Lil Uzi Vert, Juice Wrld, and Frank Ocean finding influence from it.
