Some Authentic Narrations Wrt To Miracle of The Splitting of The Moon From The Seerah of The Prophet ﷺ. (Thread)
From The Quran:
(1)The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two].(2)And if they(the polytheists) see a miracle, they turn away and say & #39;passing magic& #39;. (Surah Al-Qamar)
(1)The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two].(2)And if they(the polytheists) see a miracle, they turn away and say & #39;passing magic& #39;. (Surah Al-Qamar)
Narrated Anas that, “The Makkan people requested Allah& #39;s Messenger ﷺ to show them a miracle, and so he showed them the splitting of the moon”. (B 3637)
‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ood narrated that we were along with Allah& #39;s Messenger ﷺ at Mina, that moon was split up into two. One of its parts was behind the mountain and the other one was on this side of the mountain. Allah& #39;s Messengerﷺ said to us: Bear witness to this. (M 2800)
Ibn Mas’ood narrates that: "The moon was split in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ,(but) the Quraysh said, “This is from the magic of Muhammad, let& #39;s wait to see what the travellers say, Muhammad can& #39;t trick everyone (by magic)",...
(contd.)...so when the travellers arrived, they said the same (and confirmed the splitting of the moon)". (Musnad Abu Dawud At-Tayalisi 1/38, also supported by a narration of Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3289, Sahih(Al-Albani)).
The narration of Musnad Abu Dawud At-Tayalisi was declared Sahih by Dr.Muhammad bin Hamd As-Suyani in & #39;Al-Ahadith As-Saheehah Fee As-Seerah An-Nabawiyyah& #39; and by Sh.Alawi bin Abdul Qadir As-Saqqaf in & #39;Takhreej Ahadith wa Athaar Fi Kutub Dhilal Al-Quran.
Narrated Jubair bin Mut& #39;im: So they said: & #39;Muhammad has cast a spell upon us.& #39; Some of them said: & #39;If he could cast a spell upon us, he can not cast a spell upon all of the people.& #39;" (A portion of At-Tirmidhi 3289)
The authentic narrations of Musnad Abu Dawud At-Tayalisi &Sunan At-Tirmidhi both clarify that the miracle of the moon splitting was not something that was only visible to the Makkan polytheists but also to the travellers outside Makkah& thus had to visible all around the world.
Note:The famously quoted story of the King of Malabar (Kerala, India)- Cheraman Perumal about whom it was said that he saw the moon split and accepted Islam by coming to The Prophet ﷺ , and that later he was named Tajuddeen-is an unauthentic narration. (Islamweb-249724)
Similarly the story of the King of Kannauj (Uttar Pradesh, India)- Sarbatak -that he saw the miracle of moon splitting -is not authentic. (Islamweb-249724)
