24th Nov is remembered for the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the 9th Guru in the Sikh religion.
His death by the order of Aurangzeb was a key reason of creation of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh and the anti-Muslim resistance back then.

In 1665, Guru Tegh Bahadur left Makhowal (near present-day Anandpur Sahib) to visit Sikh sangats in the Gangetic plains. He was detained by the Mughals and was released by the intervention of Kanwar Ram Singh, son of Mirza Raja Jai Singh of Mewar.

From Delhi, the Guru travelled to Agra, Prayag, Benaras and Patna and the Sikhs of those regions served him with veneration. The news of Sikhs building temples in all towns of the Mughal empire reached Aurangzeb.
