people are deciding to tell people that only men can do drag. in this thread i am going to touch on the reasons this is WRONG, INVALID, NON INCLUSIVE and just problematic
1. not all women are the same. not all women’s bodies are the same. many people will say ‘oh but the transformation isn’t as drastic’. are yall aware that women tuck, pad, contour just as much as men do?
2. obviously this statement is just completely invalidating to women identifying individuals, non binary people.. and the levels of work and effort that goes into our drag is disregarded, simply because of our genders.
3. ‘Yeah but the transformation isn’t the same.’ Referencing back to point one, drag queens of all identities perform their drag persona in different ways. some male identifying people tuck and pad some don’t. some women tuck and pad, some don’t.
4. ‘drag is female transformation. how can you do that if you’re already a female??’ i’m sure from your perspective and traditional idea of drag, that you believe this is true. but drag has EVOLVED. there are so many different types of drag and drag styles. drag does not 1/2
equal always trying to look like a woman. i think this is so important to remember when commenting on people’s drag. everyone is different. don’t invalidate someone’s drag because they don’t look like a woman. thanks!
finishing point, anyone can do drag. i can understand firsthand how invalidating it is to be told that you aren’t a real drag queen because of your gender. but this isn’t true. anyone can do drag!!!!!! your gender has no effect on this. okay that’s all.
i also just wanna say that yall are completely invalidating non binary people with this statement. the point you’re trying to make is wrong, none of us are listening to you
