Remembering comedian/musician/mime Harpo Marx, born on this day in 1888.

Born Adolph Marx (later changed to Arthur), he was the second oldest of the famous Marx Brothers.

His life - before & after fame - was never dull. He's one of my favorite people.

A few facts about him:
According to his autobiography Harpo Speaks!, Harpo became a member of the famous Algonquin Round Table, which was a witty group of NYC writers, critics, and actors, including Dorothy Parker and Harpo's friend Alexander Woollcott. They met for lunch at the Algonquin Hotel...
(cont) every day from 1919 - 1929 and shared various thoughts, often in the form of wisecracks and wordplay.

Harpo spent most of his time at the Round Table listening to the main members of the group as they chattered through lunch.
Harpo married Susan Fleming in 1936. They were married until Harpo's death in 1964, which was on their 28th wedding anniversary.
Harpo and Susan adopted four children.

Harpo was once asked how many children he'd like to have. He responded, "So many that whenever we go out, there can be one in every window, waving to us."
Harpo was also a passionate and accomplished painter later in his life.
If you haven't read his autobiography, I highly recommend it. It's incredible...perhaps the best autobiography I've ever read. He was an incredible person - a good mix of mischievous, sweet, and so funny.
