What's the last game you spent more than 100 hours playing in total? (for me: The Long Dark, which I've been replaying on Switch)
The games I end up absolutely obsessing are never the ones that advertise having these huge playtimes. About the most offputting thing I can hear about a game before I play it is that it's 60 hours long, or whatever.
(Dicey Dungeons is too long, and I regret it)
WELL. I got a surprising number of replies to this, so I think it's time to crunch some numbers.
I counted 200 replies in total, and then I stopped counting. Life's too short, and that's as good a sample as any!
Some caveats: Quite a few people made a point of differentiating what their "favourite" games from the ones they've actually played for more than 100 hours in, which I get. A lot of amazing games don't even come close to having 100 hours of playtime.
And of course, given that this is a survey of people who follow *me*, my games (VVVVVV, Super Hexagon and Dicey Dungeons) and obviously very overrepresented here.
Yes, one player has over 100 hours in VVVVVV, and your guess is as good as mine tbh
Some people have absolutely huge playtimes with certain games - some players had 1000+ hours with Binding of Issac, Path of Exile and Kerbal Space Program, among others. There was someone with 3000+ in No Man's Sky, someone else 4000+ in Team Fortress 2.
A few people misread the question and either posted the most recent game they've *played* that they've played for more than 100 hours, or they just listed a bunch of games they've hit 100 hours in.
In those cases, I just took a guess as to what I figured the most recent game to reach 100 hours played in probably was from context. (e.g. if somebody says they've reached 100 hours in game A and are at 700 hours and counting in game B, I guessed game A).
If I couldn't tell which game was probably the "most recent", I took the first game they listed. So of course, this probably skews things a lot.
Anyway, the data! The following 78 games had exactly one person each. In a way, I think this is the most interesting list!
shout out to person who said Disney Fairies: Tinker Bell
Next, the games with two people saying they'd recently hit 100 hours. A lot of stuff here I wouldn't have guessed!
The list gets shorter again for games that 3 people named. Noita is an interesting one to see here, since it basically just launched (though it was in early access for a long time):
Four games had four people say it was the most recent thing they'd hit 100 hours in. Quote one of the Persona 5 players "that's just how long the game is tho"
Now the list gets short enough that I can do a sort of countdown! The following three games had six people each:
again with six people, Dark Souls, which has come a long way from being that weird hardcore game with a cult following
(Fun fact! If you add the Souls games together, you get 10 people, which puts it in second place on this list.)
And also with six people, Spelunky 2! This one's interesting because while 6 people explicitly listed it, a lot more said things like "it'll probably be Spelunky 2 soon". (Spleunky 2 came out in the last two months, with no early access.)
And the actual highest ranking Nintendo game, with 7 people: Animal Crossing! This one comes as no surprise tbh.
Also with 7 players, The Binding of Isaac! In particular, the people who mentioned this one seemed to have playtimes way beyond 100 hours.
And way out in front, with 15 players, more than double the number who said anything else...
Hades! Like Spelunky 2, this one had a lot of people (myself included) saying that they were almost about to hit 100 hours. It's a really phenomenal game by the way, but I'm guessing a lot of you know that already based on this data!
Nobody else said The Long Dark ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
Ok, I'm done! I don't really know what the conclusion here is, interested in your takes <3 https://twitter.com/HardDriveMag/status/1253760708438876164
