Had a pregnant HCW in my office recently ask me about the safety of a covid vaccine in pregnancy & if she should get it when it becomes available. It was ing to tell her that 1) we haven’t seen the data yet, & worse 2) that pregnant folks were likely excluded from the trial 1/x

... and thus we probably would not have safety data. Pregnant people NEED to be included in medication and vaccine trials. It’s the only way we can truly know & counsel our patients appropriately. I know pregnant women are considered a vulnerable/protected class in research 2/x

... but to exclude pregnant people is to keep them from accessing vital treatments. Or worse, exposing them to treatments with NO assurance that it is safe for the womxn or fetus. Include pregnant people in research. /end
