WHY WHAT WILBUR SAID IS HURTFUL TO NATIVES: a thread made to educate [please rt!!]

to begin, what wilbur said is ignorant, hurtful, and just plain wrong. to compare the colonization to the wars native tribes had is incredibly ignorant and hurtful.

WHY IS IT HURTFUL? The colonization towards natives is one of the most disgusting things to ever happen. First we taught the white people how to survive, we showed them the lay of the land and we welcomed them. Some went to war to protect their people, but we were helpful.-

Then the white people deduced us to savages, not even humans.

Our children were raped, our mothers and sisters were raped. Our land was stolen and we went into hiding. Some were sold into slavery and many tribe did not survive due to the fact that the white people had no mercy.-

Then, a hundred years later, our children were kidnapped. Our hair was cut due to its spiritual significance. We were given english names like “rebecca” and were trapped in school houses where they would beat and sometimes burn us to try to strip us of our culture.-

Still now, natives face the repercussions of colonization. Many of us live in poverty and on reservations. We are the only race that has to prove ourselves using the colonizer idea of the “blood quantum”.

To compare THAT, to wars our tribes had is completely hurtful and ignorant

. Natives treated other natives like humans, because we were. White people did not feel the same.

WELL HE'S NOT WRONG. No. he is. Natives did not believe in the idea of “owning” land. We thought our purpose was to serve the earth and that we did. Our wars were over many things, but we never “stole” land from each other because we didn’t think it was “ours”.

And to the next part of what he said, “so i think humans just like stealing land from other humans and the people who inevitably end up with the land are the ones we hate”

Now this… really fucking hurts. We don't hate the Europeans who came over because they got the land in the end, we hate them because they raped us, they killed us, they kidnapped us, and they took our culture. We hate them because they hurt us and we still are affected by it.-

We hate them because the people who lead the colonizing are considered heroes.

WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO CANCEL HIM? Okay you actual moron, when the fuck did i ever say i wanted to cancel him? Or when did i even insinuate that. I hate and will always hate cancel culture, this was made to educate.

IT WASN'T HIS INTENTION. Yeah im sure its not! I don't think wilbur would want to hurt people intentionally, but it's still very harmful and hurtful to natives and should be addressed.

in conclusion, what wilbur said was ignorant, problematic, tone deaf, and very hurtful. As white man, he has no right to be saying things like that. I am not saying he's racist or that we should cancel him, but hold him accountable and educate him. If you are not holding him-

accountable, you are a part of the problem. HOLD CONTENT CREATORS ACCOUNTABLE.

Also wilbur, ik you check indirects so i'm just gonna say this. Please read this and understand that what you said wasn't okay and it was very hurtful to natives. I understand it may not have been your intention, but it hurt people nonetheless. If you could try to address this-

either of twitter or on stream or somewhere, that would be great! It would bring light to native american issues and be so comforting. All I'm asking is that you address it somehow, because I don't think you meant to hurt anyone.

And my final thing is, I'M NOT TRYING TO CANCEL WILBUR. THIS WAS MADE TO EDUCATE.
