Genuinely salty about how many fucking thinkpieces there were about how Succession is bad because the characters are bad people and yet not a single thinkpiece about how The Crown is bad because the British monarchy has destroyed so many fucking lives.

Like, look, whatever! I get that people are interested in the Royal Family. But it's just pretty fucking interesting to me that even when people are being critical of royalist propaganda they never go as far as they do with something like Succession.

I feel like every day I get more anti-American but it does feel peculiarly American for critics to have this problem with Succession, a show about fictional people who are crucially also American, but not about the actual British Crown.

Because it's like a certain type of American sees even fictional characters as being more destructive to the world than actual people from other countries because, well, America dictates what happens to the world.

It's still American exceptionalism but just guilt-ridden American exceptionalism but I can fucking assure you that the damage the British Crown has done to the world is significantly greater than that of Kendall Roy.

Also, while I'm on this the obsession with Diana is fucking ghoulish and localising the sins of the monarchy to her abuse and death is also royalist propaganda because it distracts from the systemic problems with monarchy and aristocracy.

American liberals are as obsessed with Diana as right-wing rag The Express is. Because Diana's story frames the abuse as localised in a single victim who was also born with more privilege than any of us will ever taste, who died tragically young.

I'm just fucking sick of it. I'm sick of people acting like this show depicting Charles having affairs is somehow revolutionary or makes it not royalist propaganda. It absolutely is. The centring of this family psychodrama as so important and yet toothless —

— because the damage it does is to a handful of individuals rather than whole populations — explicitly is royalist propaganda and I fucking hate it.
