i genuinely find the concept of a presidential turkey pardon to be disturbing. it's a tradition used to take your mind off the implications of raising 50 million genetic nightmares in horrific conditions & forcing poor ppl to slaughter them en masse. it's so fucked up.
i know i keep talking about this, but it's been on my mind all day. turkeys are such amazing, intelligent, sweet birds, basically living dinosaurs... and ppl working at slaughterhouses have some of the highest ptsd rates of any occupation in the us. it's Bad. all around.
thinking too hard about this makes me think about the pet chickens i had as a child and i just get sad. farm animals aren't stupid and unfeeling, and the way we treat them really really sucks.
i was raised with cows and chickens and turkeys and pigs, and that's the whole reason i stopped eating them honestly. and i don't expect other ppl to all go vegan, but man. we really should be talking more abt the implications of modern animal agriculture.
anyway, watch "my life as a turkey" it's good and will make you cry and appreciate modern dinosaurs more
