There’s a UK poetry translation publisher that pairs a POC translator with a (white) monolingual “co-translator” because a POC translator can’t possibly have the education or artistry of, literally, a white person.

When I told another publisher that this was a practice I refuse to participate in, I was told they were too small to do such a thing, when they actually have done it!! The attitude is so prevalent they didn’t even notice it. The Ocean Vuong controversy only proves it further.
SO MANY PEOPLE are asking me to name this publisher and... that is not the point of my tweet...? The point is that MANY people in my industry think like this (there are two publishers in this thread! But no one asks about the second one).
