A thread: Creating Viewer Twitter.

I’ve been thinking about this recently. When new streamers create a twitter account they do it because prominent How-To-Stream-Streamers say to. They tell you to use Twitter as a source for viewership. “Find Twitch viewers here.” But as you 1/X
tweet you realize that the only viewers you find through twitter as a small creator are other streamers who don’t have time to be a viewer. We are told by influential Streamer Twitter community members to make something for free: ebooks and the like to gain support. Clogging 2/X
our time and twitter feed with streamer centric content. A handful of people do well with that I guess, but it’s rare... so rare it’s basically just 3 people. (Which should probably give you pause). But we still imitate that. We get our retweets, get our twitter growth. 3/X
But then our viewership % ends up being... odd. 15k followers, 30 viewers. 5 years of streaming and no where near that dream. But we were told “Twitter can bring people to your stream”. No. It can’t. Except for the smallest handful. And YOU are likely not one of those people. 4/X
Take a look at a large creator’s twitter feed. I mean LARGE. Does it even acknowledge streamer Twitter? Nope. Why? Because they have unlocked Viewer Twitter. Do you know how? They brought over viewers from their live shows. Viewers who want more of them, and enjoy the posts. 5/X
Here is my point: Viewer Twitter exists. You just have to make it from your viewers. And you have to make it a twitter feed that is ACTUALLY interesting to a viewer. Not one that caters to the “streamers for streamers” cycle that you will likely never succeed in. 6/X
Over the past few weeks I’ve started pushing my twitter on stream more. I quickly realized “these viewers don’t care about streamer twitter stuff”. So I’ve been allowing my Stream Culture to be the flavor of my tweets. Not “how can I get streamer twitter to retweet me?” 7/X
Communicating with devs. Music. Games. And you know what? Viewers are coming over and staying because they see stuff that actually matches their experience already. Not just streamers. Twitter feeds Twitch? No. Twitch should feed Twitter if you invite them and it’s good shit. 8/8
