One of the things I hate the most about being from a dying industrial city in the North is how you are expected to live a certain kind of way: learn to drive, meet someone, mortgage, married, kids, dead.
And to have probably done that by the time you’re 30.
It’s a worldview of living that is out of kilter with how people want to live today. It’s a relic from the 1950s. But people are adamant that’s what you should do.
It’s not just Northerners though, or British people in general of course. Not even just a working class thing. Although it is definitely a more prevalent mindset for working class people imo
Btw it’s not wrong or bad to want/do any of those things. It’s just wrong to assume that’s how everyone wants to live, or what they ‘should’ be doing.
