Miller& #39;s Crossing (1990) is one of the most beautiful movies I& #39;ve ever seen, and I think it& #39;s the finest gangster movie ever made. Yes, I said that.
you know how many Oscar nominations this movie got? zero. I& #39;ll say it again. zero.

not Finney or Byrne or Harden. not the script or the costumes or the flawless cinematography. nothing.
I think it& #39;s funny how the Coen brothers became Academy deities a few years later, but this movie was literally ignored because in the wake of Goodfellas and Godfather III.
it& #39;s never mentioned in the film but I think Miller& #39;s Crossing takes place in Philadelphia. I can name three reasons why I think this, but they& #39;re very nerdy. I& #39;ve seen this movie at least eight times.
two of the locations mentioned (Palisades and Shenandoah) are near Philadelphia. plus you can see the word "Philadelphia" on a calendar. plus it just has a Philly attitude, doesn& #39;t it? we have tons of Irish people here!
fine. I will also accept Trenton, NJ. it definitely could be New Jersey.
for those who& #39;ve asked. it seems Miller& #39;s Crossing is currently streaming on Starz, or rent/purchase through the standard VOD sites. you will not regret spending the 5 bucks.
