What I hate seeing the most is wasted potentials, and I see that on a daily basis in the camp. The kids that were playing football in the streets the other day could be professional players but they will probably end up like their dads working 12 hours a day in constructions.
The girl who wrote me the most mesmerising poem will end up tutoring kids at home to make ends meet and will never have time to finish off a poem, or write one at all. And before she knew it she will be 25, burnt out, and have no choice but to get married.
The 9 year old boy who beat me in chess 7 times in a row will probably drop out of school before 9th grade to help his father and will spend his nights at dirty cafés gambling or doing drugs like the rest of the 80% of youth population in the refugee community.
I HATE wasting kids' potentials. I HATE crushing their dreams or not even giving them the opportunity to dream!! Poverty, neglect, and the lack of opportunities for the youth inside refugee camps are killing them slowly. This cycle of crushed dream is killing them slowly.
