PSA: How to properly make the WKRP in Cincinnati episode "Turkeys Away" part of your annual Thanksgiving tradition. It's harder than it appears...

...while you can purchase the Season 1 DVD from Shout! Factory, or you can purchase the single episode through Amazon Prime Video, neither has a fully pristine version of the episode...

...the problem is WKRP is famous/infamous for using actual songs in the original versions, which became a copyright nightmare for syndication/DVD/streaming purposes...

..."Turkeys Away" uses three songs:

Pink Floyd's "Dogs"
Joe Cocker's "Fun Time"
CCR's "It Came Out of the Sky"

You don't hear any of the songs in the Amazon Prime Video version (not sure about the latter 2 for Shout! Factory)...

...for "Fun Time" and "It Came Out of the Sky" the snippets are brief are inconsequential to the story (despite the good implicit joke of the latter). So not a huge deal to watch those scenes with generic music...

...But the scene with "Dogs" is absolutely worthless without the song. The Prime Video version just takes a chunk out of the scene. (I haven't seen the Shout! version, but this says the scene was partially saved with sound-alike music https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0742671/alternateversions )...

...and frankly, without the "Dogs" scene, the first-half of the episode is pretty meh. It's pretty key to establishing how much The Big Guy feels out of place at the station since the rock takeover...

...so what can you do to watch "Turkeys Away" properly? Two solutions...

...one option is to watch it on http://DailyMotion.com  where there is an original version of the episode, albeit with the images reversed... https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6xgey7 

...the other is watch on Prime Video (or whatever other streaming service where it's available), stop at the 3:50 mark, and watch the "Dogs" clip on YouTube...
