Not a COVID denier. Not even a little. Granny is 89 in nursing home. Parents are ~70. Its real for them. As a licensed educator & classroom teacher with experience in juvenile detention, IMO, our children are more vulnerable to mental illness from the pandemic than any virus....
I talk to coaches, parents and student-athletes across Indiana daily. Shutting down/canceling HS sports will have longterm repercussions. Young people will carry emotional baggage from these decisions made today for years to come. Anger, resentment, depression, anxiety are a few.
Role of sports in society cant be undersold. It plays a critical role in well-being of so many young lives. Sports teach, inspire, motivate and create better, more productive citizens. It opens doors for many that might not have been possible otherwise. Stop marginalizing sports.
I wonder what young people think about how the adults are handling COVID? Tbh they have every right to be frustrated.
