Q: “Are you a Christian?”

A: “Ask my neighbor.”
I discussed this exchange in my Reformation class lecture on the #mennonites, & one of my students was so convicted she wrote a historical fiction book in mandarin about it & just won a major book prize 🤯

Never underestimate what can happen in the classroom!
FYI - this is a story often told in Mennonite circles today about an exchange with an Amish man. The reception of the story is nicely representative of the Mennonite theological emphasis on sanctification so I use it as an illustration in my Historical Theology Reformation class.
Since this thread is taking off, come study the Reformation with me at Wheaton College in the M.A. History of Christianity program. We explore connections between Christian history and the present.
