My 60-year-old dad is baffled by this stuff and has taken to referring to a woke colleague as "you know, the they/them guy," whom he is incapable of mentioning without adding "What& #39;s that all about?"
My dad can& #39;t figure out why a straight guy ("who looks like a Dockers ad"), married to a woman, would make so much of so little. Apparently, they/them is big on correcting others, too.
So, I guess the message is that if you wear carefully pressed khakis and polo shirts, people will find your extra-special gender identity even more hilarious and bewildering than usual.
OK, remembered something else. My dad had to read through this guy& #39;s performance review - they/them this, they/them that - and texted me: "If there are two or more of him, why didn& #39;t he get more work done this year?"
Yes, I terved my whole family. My brother, a law student, went on a tear yesterday about a message on his class listserv enjoining people to "be *intentional* in your use of woman and female." No mention of men and males, of course. "Now I& #39;m going to intentionally use female."
