Beijing appears to be totally blowing the coronavirus vaccine race. Though it claims to have developed successful vaccines, serious scientists are putting about as much faith in them as they do Russia's vaccine. 1/x

The contrast couldn't be starker versus the positive reception people are giving Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca's results. 2/x

Given China's huge legit investment in biotech coupled with its alleged illicit efforts to obtain all manner of scientific research AND its desire to use covid as an opportunity to raise its global standing, this is a huge failure. Not to mention they had a head start! 3/x

Why doesn't China release more data on its vaccines? Is the science just not there? Is the vaccine solid but the government won't let companies be transparent? Either way a disaster for China's goal of becoming a global leader in this field. 4/x

Let's hope for the latter, or some other explanation, given how many Chinese have received these experimental treatments already. 5/5
