This was a half-baked tweet that got some traction so I'm going to write a thread clarifying my thoughts on this matter. All of the following is IMVHO: https://twitter.com/gs_lamar/status/1330532158126034954
1/13 First off, I don't like telling ppl what to do so I'm just going to be making some suggestions. One of the bigger issues to saying "I'm lowering my prices because of fiat" is that (intentional or not) you're applying peer pressure for all others in the space to do the same.
2/13 If you're fortunate enough to be earning a living off #cryptoart, sales are down (because fiat, allegedly), and you got bills to pay and a belly (or bellies!) to feed... I get it. Landlords and grocery stores don't tend to accept crypto (yet!). BUT...
3/13 There's no need to DECLARE that you're dropping your prices because of fiat. Put on your marketing hat and have an ART SALE or something! Channel your creativity towards your target market. If this is something you have troubles with, feel free to reach out to myself (tho
4/13 ...i'm a noob in this space) or the community, the majority of which seems rather friendly and welcoming (my lmtd exp). Perhaps we could collab on some kind of marketing event? Point is there are better ways to muster up sales than (inadvertently) pressuring your peers
5/13 If you've been blessed by the hand of a curatorial platform (such as SR or KO, say) and you, too, are feeling the pinch, I'd argue that you have a greater responsibility to NOT declare "dropping reserve price due to fiat" because your word has more weight than the artists
6/13 ...who DREAM of selling a piece for 1Ξ or more! There's a good chance that you, the SR or KO artist, is seen as a role model and if YOU have to drop your prices, all those below you feel they have to do the same. This is a SLIPPERY SLOPE TO MEDIOCRITY!!!
7/13 I'm not trying to "sub-tweet" or shame anyone here because I don't think the consequences that I'm describing are the intentions of the artists who have posted and done such things in the recent past. All I'm saying is, you can still lower your prices if you feel you need
8/13 ...to, but do it in a way that doesn't pressure or devalue the rest of your community and fellow artists.

Speaking of VALUE, I thought @CRAFTW3RK had a good point that, in some cases at least, lowering the prices of your current art devalues the investments made by your
9/13 ...initial collectors. So keep that in mind too!

Speaking of collectors... if you're a collector (not a whale) and your feeling the pinch (and the itch!) you also don't need to declare "hey, #cryptoartist, you should trim your prices because of fiat!"
10/13 If you like a piece of #cryptoart and can't afford it, why not try to reach out to the artist? Instead of pressuring the entire community to devalue their work, why don't you simply reach out to the artists you wish to collect from and have a dialogue? Negotiate!
11/13 While some may not be willing to barter or settle for less (that is FAIR!), I'm willing to bet that there are artists out there willing to haggle, especially if they know their art is going to a good home. If you're trying to take advantage of the situtation, GTFO.
12/13 I think I've hit most of my points on this matter. Please feel free to contribute more below or disagree with me to your hearts content (I am a critical thinker with a thick skin. I LOVE healthy, positive, constructive dialogue).

Oh, one last thing I almost forgot...
13/13 Fuck fiat.

End of thread.
