A 🧵about being a "backstage" healthcare worker in the pandemic...

I feel fortunate to be able to support the true front-line HCWs through mostly remote work as a #MedPhys, but
it's complicated. Staying out of the hospital when I don't physically have to be there protects my colleagues on the front lines, our patients, and my family.

From a public health perspective, it's the right thing to do.
Still, #MedPhys isn't a back-office role like billing. We are sometimes patient-facing and always clinician-facing. And it feels super awkward to acknowledge the fact that I'm working from my attic when I'm on a Zoom with folks
who have to be in the hospital and might prefer not to be.

I'd like to think this is understood and that those of us who are working this way are seen as supporting those living the front-line nightmare as best we can, rather than slacking or taking advantage of the situation.
Nobody seems to be talking about this openly. But maybe we can.

To my peeps on the front lines - we love you, we appreciate you, I will scream until I pass out about the things we need to do to protect you.
To that end, I'll be busting my ass - from my attic - to take care of anything I can to support you. And when (if) you need my boots on the ground, I'll be there in ten minutes.
