When you hear the words "kidnap" & "torture", you might think of Netflix & Hollywood films. But this is a story much closer to home...

On January 13, we got a call from a man who'd escaped 3 men who'd kidnapped him.

They'd also tortured his friend who was still missing. (1/8)
Now, our police officers train for these scenarios rigorously & that's why their response on this night was second to none- professional, calm, efficient.

From the person who took the 999 call, to the officers coordinating the response in the FCR, to the officers deployed. (2/8)
But don't forget that these people are human beings too.

With beating hearts, adrenaline pumping, the pressure of split second decisions weighing on their shoulders, all the time with that hope in the back of their heads for a good result. (3/8)
The man who made the 999 call was found and safeguarded.

And his friend was rescued by Firearms officers a short time later too.

He had been tortured - punched & kicked multiple times, boiling water from a kettle poured over his hands and the hair shaved from his head. (4/8)
The injuries to his hands were horrific & these images will stay with our officers for a long time.

As will the look on this man's face when he saw us, knowing he'd been saved & that his ordeal was over.

No amount of training ever gets you used to that raw gratitude. (5/8)
The three men were arrested and after an absolutely cracking investigation led by DC Andrew Wakling from CID, they were charged and ended up pleading guilty to the offences.

They are Toushane Spencer, Derek Harris, and Abdillah Cumar.

These are their faces. (6/8)
They were sentenced to a total of 22 years in prison and we hope that when that cell door closes every night, they regret their actions and reflect on them in order to make better choices when they are released. (7/8)
We are exceptionally proud of all of the officers involved in this case for their response on the night and the subsequent top quality investigation.

It cannot be overstated - they are amazing.
