Now it is old news that Japan, along with China, South Korea & US, are committing to Net Zero Emissions (NZE).
And in a nicely choreographed series of announcements, Japanese corporates, utilities and GSFI are releasing pledges to align with this.

Take @Toshiba, committing in November 2020 to exit the coal power plant construction market. A small but important step, better late than never.

Marubeni Corp moved to exit #coal in September 2018. They are a corporate leader. Good, right @mattjcan? https://asia.nikkei.com/Spotlight/Environment/Toshiba-stops-taking-orders-for-coal-fired-power-plants

But the giant of Japanese utilities - JERA - and Australia's largest fossil fuel customer globally, announced a NZE by 2050 policy in November 2020.

Cool, isn't it @keithjpitt! https://energy.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/coal/japans-jera-to-shut-inefficient-coal-fired-power-plants-by-2030/78638374

But JERA has also now given a big clue as to one path to implementation. Blending coal with green ammonia. First 0.7% (done
), then 20% by the early 2030s then 100% by the 2040s. Then hey presto, our biggest #coal importer in the world ceases coal use! https://www.powermag.com/jera-planning-to-shift-coal-power-fleet-to-100-ammonia/

FMG is getting ready (agreeing with @BlackRock Larry Fink's Tsunami of change re the financial risks of climate change) announcing a modest 235GW #RenewableEnergy target. Little detail yet, but give Twiggy credit, he did build the world's #3 iron ore firm! https://www.bloombergquint.com/technology/billionaire-miner-forrest-aims-to-be-a-global-clean-energy-giant
But I hear you ask, given all the other global trading houses have now exited thermal coal mining, what about the Japanese laggard - Sumitomo Corporation? Surely they too have a coal exit policy almost ready to be announced?
