How is it, that groups with no connection, experience or medical expertise, are quoted in articles about trans people? How come it is acceptable to quote literal hate groups, even on the BBC? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55015959">https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/heal...
Comments that waiting lists are a good thing is nothing but incompassionate babble, meant to shroud the transphobia that lies underneath. Having to wait this long for medical expertise is in humane and frankly illegal.
No one should have to wait for more than 18 months according to NHS standards, and yet the wait is much longer. This waiting time adds to years of people coming out and coming to terms with who they are. No kid just comes out and is taken to a get care immediately.
It’s so disappointing how the media culture in the UK enables bigotry and frames them as legitimate voices in matters that have nothing to do with them. It continues to breed misinformation and hatred in our society and is a fundamental problem in journalism in this country.
Correction: I meant to say 18 WEEKS. Waiting for trans care goes way beyond that, going up to 2-3 years. It’s completely unacceptable.
