Whether nationally or locally, we need development-minded leaders. Unfortunately, our nation is not so blessed. As citizens, we must come to a place where we recognize the various kinds of leaders there are so we can make the right and best decisions. #mondaythoughts @ndbcvi
Why? Each of these categories of leaders cannot make an impact beyond the class they belong to. One cannot give what one does not have. "Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks." An apple does not fall far from its tree, they say. #LeadershipMatters @iofatoki #AMAs
a. THE CONSISTENT OR MAINTENANCE LEADER
Consistent or maintenance leaders are people in a position of leadership with no intention to make changes. They are satisfied with keeping the system they have inherited. They do not intend to change anything or move anything around. #lead
They view the input and output of the organization as okay. They are the regular, never-rock-the-boat personality. These leaders exhibit consistency in keeping things the way they are. They ensure that things continue to operate in the same manner that they met them. @dejitula
With these kinds of leaders, there is no creativity or innovation. The biggest priority is ensuring that old positions are neither altered nor diminished. These leaders ensure compliance and continuance of existing patterns. These are establishment guys. @femigbaja @AbdulMahmud01
There is little concerning vision, drive, or passion. They cannot recognize that leadership is about making a difference, not just maintaining machinery. They are status quo officers par excellence. @monblaze @tim_kunat @oshin_uncolonzd @MoninuolaGbade2 #Motara #dopemanTwizzy
b. THE COMBATIVE OR MOTION LEADER
Then we have leaders who are combative or motion leaders. These kinds of leaders are mainly reactive. They confront things that occur during leadership. They do not precipitate change. Instead, they respond to change when things happen. #king
In effect, they do not create ripples intentionally. They do not envision new things. They do not come up with new ideas. All they do is to react when something occurs which is not normal in the organization. #EndBadGoveranceInNigeria #makeitmeanmore #LeadersLEAD @olaogunfasunon
They are like people in a car who merely respond to the motion of the vehicle in which they are seated. If there is a sudden stop, they react to it. If there is a sudden noise, they respond to it. If nothing happens, they remain as they are. #LeadersLEAD #NigeriaNeedsLeaders
c. THE COLLAPSED OR MISSING LEADER
Collapsed or missing class of leaders usually oversee deterioration. When they come to leadership, they seem to fade away while the organization falls into obscurity. A gradual descent into oblivion and loss of relevance is their trait. @NDBCVI
Such leaders do not see this as a problem. It does not bother them that they are overseeing a failing organization whose productivity is dwindling, whose role in society is becoming irrelevant, and whose existence is gradually ending. #failednigeriangovernment @ttemako22 @TTemako
Their attitude is to act as though it is not their responsibility to move the organization forward. These leaders do not engage in genuine efforts. They mostly go missing, as the organization feels no impact of leadership. #LeadershipMatters #MondayMorning #KingandPrince @NDBCVI
d. THE CONFUSED OR MYSTIFIED LEADER
Confused or mystified leaders always seem to be perplexed. Though they are leaders, they are constantly unclear about what makes them leaders, undecided about the people they are leading or the organization they are piloting. #Labour @NDBCVI
An inability to have clarity of purpose, process, and performance characterize their leadership. They are usually as mystified about the present and future of the organization as anyone else. Thus, they lack coherence and focus. #23rdNovember #Rivers #Lagos @lindaikeji @DrJoeAbah
e. THE COINCIDENTAL OR MANDATED LEADER
This kind of leader is accidental. The leadership role was not expected, desired, or prepared for. It was thrust upon them by the circumstances. They became leaders because of the mandate of those who are supposedly followers. @YouthsLagos
On a whim, they made them a leader. At other times, they became leaders because of those who wield influence around them. These are power-brokers who mandated that they become leaders. @oklaadekoje @okbabarinde @jerryakinsola @Iremide @NigBaptConv @NigerianBaptis3 #LeadersMatter
For such a person, leadership is arduous and tenuous. Decisions are hard to take. They implement policies based on the opinion of those who played a role in their emergence as a leader. Ironically, such leaders are often conflicted and glad at the same time. @NDBCVI @YouthsLagos
They are conflicted because they are never sure of what to do. However, they remain pleased because they enjoy the pleasure of office. #EndBadGovernanceinNIGERIA #NigeriaMustBeBetterInOurLifeTime @FunmiMoninuola @NDBCVI @AABFellowship @DanielIkwuagwu @AdepojuPeterAk1 #DjSwitch
f. THE CREATIVE OR MOTIVATED LEADER
The last set of leaders are creative or motivated leaders. These leaders are resourceful, visionary, and intuitive. To them, no system is perfect. When they come into a leadership situation, they question the status quo. @gamtheprof #DjSwitch
They are willing to do old things in fresh ways. They envision new ideas for the organization. They revel in the development of fresh concepts. They encourage innovation. They promote different thinking. #BetterDaysAhead #leadingthroughchange @IconHelp1 @iofatoki @afolake26 #hope
They continually ask how they can improve what the organization does, what the organization can do. These leaders strive to change, remove, or institute new thinking. They are not afraid to break fallow ground. They challenge their successes and examine their failures. #LeadWell
Sometimes, a leader may find they are operating in one or more of these categories constrained by other circumstances. #ResistEvil #BreakTheMold #DestroyEvil #EndBadGovernanceinNIGERIA #DiscoverYourLimits #StopWickedness @NDBCVI @UncleBokun @YouthsLagos #LeadRight @pastorbagudu
When a leader realizes this, it is the right time to make the required change to move into the creative class. If a leader is reticent to do this, it is more than likely that the heart of such a leader is not innovative. @NDBCVI @Iremide @dejitula @WestTobin @teshlok @savndaniel
