Perhaps no issue over the past 4 years has more animated the progressive foreign policy movement than ending US support for disastrous the Saudi-Emirati war in Yemen. @JoeBiden’s reported nominees for Sec State @ABlinken & UN Amb @LindaT_G both joined a 2018 mea culpa on Yemen.
The letter came at a pivotal moment ahead of the historic War Powers Resolution vote in the Senate. It’s rare in modern politics to see people admit they got it wrong and they should be commended. If confirmed they’ll get a chance to put these words into action. #yemencantwait
It’s also always important to note that none of this happened by chance. The brave Yemeni and Yemeni-American voices who have fought - and continue to fight - for peace, the activists who joined them, and those in Congress who refused to accept biz as usual are the real heroes.
Last but not least, we should all be prepared to push these nominees and the entire Biden admin on Yemen & everything else. In the immortal words of Frederick Douglas “power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.” So let’s get to work building power.
