3 years ago @pixarcoco was released. I was totally against @Disney doing Día de Los Muertos which was sacred to me, I grew up with kids making fun of me for my altares. I didn’t want Disney to butcher it and make everyone wear calavera makeup for fun. It’s disrespectful to me.
. @Disney hired @laloalcaraz to consult after the whole Muerto Mouse - beautiful. I was still against Coco but hey, don’t like it, don’t go. @OmarV8X called me (huge @leeunkrich fan) “ @GalaxyTheatres at @CanneryCasino said they would play @pixarcoco in Spanish - it’s one (con’t)
showing & it’s thanksgiving day at 3pm!” @OmarV8X felt betrayed, he legit talked @pixarcoco for months. Of course injustice my ears pop up. We called @GalaxyTheatres & manager said “we can open 2nd showing but it has to pre-sell at least half theater for us to consider” (cont)
We started calling friends/posting/telling people what was up. Everyone wanted to help. Many of you went online & bought tickets because of course, @GalaxyTheatres was like “they have to be purchased online” (which is a whole other non-Brown friendly convo.) People emailed me
saying “I bought you _ tickets” me *wtf am I going to do with all these tickets!?!?* we ended up with a full theater!!! We called Casa Del Inmigrante (immigration services) & BBS (local bilingual therapists) “give us families!” We had UVisa & other families in difficult (cont)
situations. One mom had 4 kids, she said she hadn’t taken all 4 kids to movies together because $$. *Come on over!* it was incredibly humbling. (No pics of those fams posted)

One of the @GalaxyTheatres Mgr was super rude, we had to distribute tickets in lobby & he was like (cont
“You can’t do that here!” I explained to him that I had like tons of tickets and @OmarV8X I had printed them all and had placed families by numbers etc and he rolled his eyes and told us we couldn’t loiter.

As families arrived though we ignored him as we saw excited kiddies...
Remember, the whole point of this was that they had promised to show @pixarcoco in Spanish & they only had ONE showing. People started showing up to buy tickets (because brown people don’t buy tickets online! 🙄) were being told they didn’t have tickets because *we* had (cont)
“Bought out the theater” so people were getting upset at “La Dreamer”for ruining their Coco experience, we explained it to them and they got mad that Mgr was twisting our actions. We told them we wanted MORE Spanish showings. New Mgr came and she started adding more times (cont)
that day alone they had to add 2 more showings JUST for the people coming in to buy tickets on the spot. Because AGAIN Brown people don’t buy tickets online (2017) I’d dare to say even now...but anyways, they had ONE showing! It was mean to advertise Spanish movie & not have it.
People were coming in saying “my friend called me and said you had posted the movie was in Spanish! I haven’t seen a movie in Spanish in decades!” Others told us they wanted to bring their Abuelita or other family members because they didn’t speak English and missed movies. (Cont
Being inside of the theater was another experience. My ice cold anti-Coco heart melted, I cried when my then 2 year old nephew first saw Miguel and yelled “Titi! That’s NOAH!” (Him) I then cried when Miguel is called “Gordito” and again “es me!” (His nickname) - of course (cont)
the uncontrollable, sobbing came as Mama Coco crossed over...I could hear the wails around me. My mom and many other moms in the audience were clutching each other. Some crying “mama” “Mami” crying for their own mothers that borders and policy have stripped from them. (Cont)
I’d never shared an experience like that. Room full of sobbing, companionship in the dark, smell of popcorn, squirming of tiny ones wondering what was happening to all the adults.

TY everyone who helped that day.s/o @TheaterEars tried their best to accommodate alternatives.
Oh...want to know what happened after with @GalaxyTheatres?
@OmarV8X kept in touch with the Nice Manager, she would update him. The @pixarcoco spanish showings went well into the second week of January ‘18, she said they had more attendance than English version💜 just listen...
gracias @laloalcaraz who met with @pixarcoco’s biggest little fan, Noah, while we were en route to @Disneyland a few days later - he gave him a Miguel poster that he still has in his room. Explaining a consultant to a 2 year old was “Lalo helped make Miguel” he was mesmerized!!!
. @pixarcoco DVD was released on what would have been my Mama Mica’s (his GreatAbuelita) 81st birthday so of course we had to have it!

Those with toddlers know, their attention span isn’t long. This was 4 months after he first saw it and he was as in love as ever. 👦🏽 🎸
We watched @pixarcoco twice that night and about 3 million times after that. If you have a 2 year old in your life...you feel me.

That’s his dog, Kitty, trying super hard to get goldfish crackers as he’s focused on the movie he used to say, “she’s my Dante”
