Star Wars A New Hope is the first movie I remember seeing as a child.

I fucking love Star Wars.

Midichlorians are the fucking stupidest thing they ever did. Yoda was a goddamned badass, NOT BECAUSE HE WAS A LARGE WARRIOR MAN

I mean holy shit that's the mind fuck given to Luke as he's looking for this GREAT JEDI

It has to be a bad motherfucker who's 10 feet tall and shoots lightning bolts when he shits.

THAT IS THE MIND FUCK, and very zen.

I fucking loved this as a kid. Anyone could be a Jedi. It was bout focus, and dedication and learning to feel the Force, that Force that inhabits us all, being connected to everything and everyone.

I liked watching Yoda have that bad ass saber duel in the new movies too.

That was cool.

The entire point of Luke's training was HOW TO THINK. Basically like how one learns to meditate. It was a battle of SELF in the Dark Side cave.

That's why he didn't need his FUCKING WEAPONS. He only was bringing what he took with him IN HIS FUCKING HEAD.

That's the battle.

Yeah sure they also have him working out. Again this is like warrior monk shit. Yes, you train the body.

But the mind is what is REALLY trained.

AND THAT IS WHY YODA'S BODY DOES NOT AND NEVER DID MATTER.

Light Side and Dark Side

IS THIS A CHOICE? Or nah

Well in MY STAR WARS I GREW UP WITH

It was always a choice. The lure of the Dark side is the same as the lure of any power. To abuse it. To self gratify. To take the low path. To take the EASY path. To hold to a goal above the means and methods.

We all face this.

The light side wasn't about YOU CANNOT LOVE LOVE IS BAD SUCK IT

No. It was about excess. It was about letting EMOTION rule over THOUGHT. Passion over reason.

And yet the balance in that is that passion isn't evil. Passion can be wonderful, but it cannot *rule* us.

And Luke's rash choices...made for ALL the right reasons...weren't dark side choices AT ALL.

They simply were a path that would expose him to more dark side influence and choices. You made this choice to save your friends. What else would you do ...to save your friends.

AND THESE ARE ALL QUESTIONS WE ASK OURSELVES

As well as questions of REDEMPTION. Can Vader be redeemed?

Leia sez fuck no. And I don't disagree with her tbh. Luke has *hope* because he believes as long as there is still a choice, one can make the RIGHT choice.

And he believes his father can make a right choice.

And ...he does.

Does that redeem all the evil VADER did?

Hahaha no and no one fucking suggests that.

It redeems LUKE'S FATHER, Anakin, to Luke. And to Anakin himself, showing him that he could still be a good person who made a good choice.

That's it.

Like can we do an extended exploration of no, when they go light they're truly good and therefore punitive punishment is useless and only revenge?

But we don't get that. It's treated in some cases like they were possessed by evil spirits in a way.

The Dark Side isn't some demon/Satan whispering lies in your fucking ear about saving your preggers wife.

NO.

It's the lure WE ALL FUCKING FACE. The easy path. The abuse of power. Etc. etc.

It's WHAT WE TAKE WITH US INTO THE CAVE

The power of the dark side is freedom from accountability. It's indulging the worst aspects of self without reflection. It is hate, and it consumes you.

And btw?

What Luke takes with him into that cave, is his fear. When he arms himself, he sets himself to fight.

That's what Yoda was trying to fucking teach him. Luke always, but always, chose to FIGHT.

He doesn't get this lesson until the end of the arc.

That's when he turns off his saber and throws it away.

And then, he is a Jedi.
