#synthfam Thread - Real talk re: playlist submissions.

I’m no pro curator by any means but I’ve had dozens of requests so thought I should clarify and help y’all when approaching others too.
Caveat - These just my ideas. Happy to be corrected! Also want to acknowledge my playlist is super small fry, but I think I’ve learned enough to maybe be helpful to yall
Things to do/consider:
1 - I (and many others) have spent real $ on playlist promo, so this is a (small) part of my music business and I’m aiming for RTOI. Droll I know, but real. Please keep this in mind and recognise that we’re on tiny budgets and small decisions matter!
2 - listen to the playlist. Does your track fit? Yes, go to 2. No? Look elsewhere or keep expectations low.
3 - did you carefully check for a submission link etc? If not do so, then go to 4.
4 - is there a submission process etc listed? If yes, use it. Done. If not, DMs etc okay, but don’t always expect a reply.
5 - When to bypass 1-4?!? Not one of us get anywhere alone as artists, and anyone with a decent moral compass will acknowledge this. If you’ve genuinely supported someone (as many have me) then by all means reach out...
... However keep in mind support shouldn’t be transactional! I only support the artists I love and respect for their intrinsic value! Also keep in mind the business stuff I mentioned earlier. You might be asking a favour which has financial ramifications.
Lastly, if it wasnt clear. If you reallly want to get ignored/muted/blocked. Don’t do 1 - 4 and just spam your Spotify link in a thread or to someone’s DMs who you’ve never talked to before. Very successful blockage strats.
I hope this thread comes across as intended- to help folks out. Apologies if anything sounds arrogant, not intended and Twitter communication is hard haha. I’m still very much learning how to be an indie but wanted to share my learnings. Please read with a charitable eye 😊
