Our @ABCTV vertical video / screen life series, Content is up for an Emmy @iemmys tonight. Here’s a few photos of production and the brilliant team who made the show #flipgirl
Here’s the “camera” we used to shoot Content. If we were filming one side of a video call we’d strap two cameras together and have playback on one and record on the other Next time it’d be good to figure out how to film both conversations at once.
Our story rooms for Content took place in Brisbane, Melbourne and Toronto. For a few months we did international story rooms via video conferencing (thank you @whereby)
Content started development at the end of 2018 Here’s Producer Meg’s early note book. Two of these ideas made it to the show.
We made Content at Ludo with a brilliant group of filmmakers from Canada called @shykids. I fell in love with the guys when I saw their short film, Noah. It’s brilliant. I connected with its director Walter Woodman over Facebook and we started talking about Content
Meg was the producer who pulled this brilliant team through development, pre-production and production Contemt created a completely new production model and workflow. It really was laying down the tracks as the train rolled along
Content had an incredible Commissioning Editor at @ABCTV Australia. Charlie and I pitched the idea of Content to Que over lunch at ABC’s food court in Sydney. @theqza and the team at @ScreenAustralia are the reasons the show made it into production Thank you
We had a great First AD too Grace pulled the team together over a shoot that had a completely new production model and workflow.
Content had an incredibly talented, creative and collaborative cast too. They weren’t afraid to take risks. The cast was led by @charlottenicdao (check her out in @AppleTV’s @mythic_quest) and Gemma Bird Matheson. They made the show
And here’s #flipgirl’s car at the Australian Stunt Academy
Here’s Contents animation director and editor, Pat making the show vertically Pat is the reason the show felt so cool / real. It took a lot of work to find the balance between the phone feeling like someone was actually using it and the show being entertaining.
Also to note. Contents cast, Charlotte and Gemma mostly ended up directing and shootings nearly all their own scenes for Content too
We tried to make the internet feel real in Content so we had special cameos from brilliant creators like @natalietran @rackareal @wengie @WASHINGTONx @SharonOrval @Itsangrydad10
Here is Content’s brilliant edit and VFX team, Michael (editor of Bluey too) and Ben too Ben spent days making the car flip feel real.
Here’s how @benjaminzaugg made the car flip real https://twitter.com/benjaminzaugg/status/1169856199635791872
On the day of its release Content went a bit viral. A friend @HarrisonVevo and I spent the day editing clips from Content and throwing them into the internet. A clip of Lucy’s car flip went viral on twitter after people thought it was real. It had about 6 million views in 24hrs
It ended up in the New York Times too. Thank you @cmontefiore
The @ABCTV organised for Content to be screened on the side of a building in federation square every night for a month too
