Wow. Not sure how the next tweet will be recieved....1/n
I value parental support of public education. Fundraising in one way to help a school. 2/n
It boggles my mind, it upsets me and it frustrates me that my colleagues must use tools like GoFundMe to buy a class set of books, when 3.2 km away, another school in the same ward, zone, Superintendency, just approved School Council disbursements of....3/n
~4K for e reader subscriptions
~5.7K for library
~+/- 60K for yard improvements to be confirmed by school board
~$100 per class for resources

My kids attend this school. I donate one library book per year and buy teacher gifts. I give unwanted books to the Book Bonanza and I donate to food drives. 5/n
But I also fund my own classroom library 3.2 km away. And my own resources and the list goes on....I won't bore you. 6/n
The point is... this is not equity. This is not just and this needs to be illuminated AND acted upon. 7/n
This is also not new news. People for Education, G&M, Ottawa Citizen have reported on this. @ocdsb, are you not aware?
I am glad my own kids have good educational opportunities. My guiding principle is that my Ss have all the same opportunities and more. 3.2 km away. That's how far we are. But it's vast and I don't know what else to do. This is absolutely ridiculous, inequitable & shameful.
Thanks for reading. It's been a slice. ✌🏻😎
(There were 4 more budget lines I didn't include...) No equity across the system until these practices are addressed.... 👀👀👀
