We need to stop assuming that by translating to Spanish we are providing Indigenous peoples south of the border a great service bc many of our relatives don’t speak Spanish, they speak our languages. We also see how this mentality has harmed communities in detention centers.
Many of them are Indigenous from Central America and don’t speak Spanish so this entire “flex” on providing bilingual services in two colonial languages isn’t the “flex” you think it is. This is why there is a high need of Indigenous translators yet no funding, only to Spanish.
Funding and grants always go to those providing translation services in colonial languages and rarely in our Native languages so support orgs doing this all the time. Some that come to mind are @MayanLeague & @MyCielola
