he just has so much pride, and he lives his life with this pristine act of self-confidence and bravado. i imagine it’s not easy for him to let go of control.
i could imagine his girlfriend dumping him for this very reason. because oikawa just never opened up. he never let her tear down his walls, or get too close. they never had a moment where she felt like they were truly intimate or he cared on a deeper level.
and i’m not talking about flirting, because oikawa can flirt with the best of them. he can sweet talk, he can give compliments. but it’s behind closed doors, when he’s expected to be mushy and intimate, that he just CAN’T.
and, yeah, it’s the exact same way with iwa. i imagine it might even be worse with iwa, bc now there’s this added shame and stickiness of loving your best friend and trying to be physical with your best friend. how do you go from fist bumps to sex with a person, just like that?
oikawa wants to, he WANTS TO so bad. but he just can’t let himself. he can kiss iwa and say nonsense like “let oikawa-san take you higher~”
but he can’t KISS him and say smth intimate like “let me love you” or (even worse) “love me.”

he can cuddle but when it gets more soft and intense, he can’t. and in the bedroom he can’t relinquish control; he must be on top, he must lead, he must know exactly what he’s doing and everything must be textbook-perfect.
which brings me to the main thought that led me to make this thread: oikawa has a really, really hard time making eye contact in the bedroom. he pretty much doesn’t.
even just the THOUGHT of having this intense, passionate moment with someone where you’re looking into e/o’s eyes, vulnerable, and communicating your love scares him so badly. (scared? embarrassed? smth just holds him back)
