Here we're about to talk about some of the cool stuff (maybe all of it) in our latest issue. This thread will be simulcast (hah!) on our brand new Facebook page, which currently has 21 followers, but you're welcome to become number 22: https://www.facebook.com/excusememag
Issue No. 4 of EXCUSE ME Mag came out not too long ago, and it's a pretty big deal. Here's the stylish and intriguing cover that I'm trying to hit you with often enough that soon you'll say "Hey, what is this all about?" Glad you could join us, you're just in time to find out.
After a brief intro by our aged editor-in-chief, we arrive at the table of contents, and here you will find the names of all the great folks who contributed to making this issue special.
We kick off our BLOOD & BAD TIMES issue with an especially horrifying tale by @AMMetivier. The Auction is an alternate history tale about slavery and zombies. From the intro: "PLEASE NOTE: This story is a heavy one, and likely to trigger you in some way no matter who you are."
We need some quick relief from the psychological depths of that last story, so we switch gears to offer up an art feature on the amazing @Chrisssalsop. Does this plan work? Does it provide the desired relief? MAYBE! His stuff is brilliant and mesmerizing, but still totally weird!
On next to the latest in our resident rabble-rousing sonneteer Fr. Defenestrato's acclaimed (by us) series ME THE PEOPLE. If you didn't know EXCUSE ME was a leftist rag before page 20, you certainly know it now. Here he compares "LOLmerica's current straits" to Hamlet!✊
"LOLmerica's PRESENT straits." Sorry.
And now another story: a juicy drug-warp from @JeffChon called "Not a Fever, Not a Dream," about a loaf of banana bread causing introspection so deep that it literally changes lives. It's bonkers in a beautiful way.
Another art break, and here we head to sunny California to meet director Noel Lawrence and check out some exclusive stills from his feature SAMMY-GATE, an absurdist conspiracy satire about Sammy Davis Jr. causing Watergate. (this pic is the film's poster, not in the issue)
Sorry about that, @JeffChon. We were already in sunny California. Duh.
Our next story is another gruesome one. "Terminal" by @commonlydia concerns a morning in the life of a person living out of doors. In just a few pages, she manages to fully convey the terror of both that situation and the mortal peril of humanity at large. A scream at the world.
@nonvanilla is our featured poet in this issue, and the words to her poem"Dried Out" capture the angst of the age perfectly. To me, this poem IS 2020, distilled and bottled.
If you've tried following along on Facebeak, I've been doing that all wrong, posting to the EMM page using my personal account and no one can see it. Gimme a few to straighten that out and then I'll wrap up the fun here.
