Recently I’ve been reflecting on Peter’s comments concerning Lot in 2 Peter 2.

Firstly there is puzzling monicker of “righteous Lot.”

Keep in mind this was the same Lot who couldn’t get along with Abraham, and when given his choice over land, he picked the “best.” (1/4)
Also, even though he was distressed over the vile conduct of the wicked people of Sodom he chose to stay there anyway, even becoming part of the town’s leadership.

Consider also he never once spoke up about their conduct till they came for his guests. (2/4)
Again when the people came to assault his guests, he offered up his daughters as a substitute to just show “hospitality.”

The righteousness spoke of here is the righteousness he had as a result of his faith, imperfect as it was. (3/4)
Even Genesis relates he was delivered “because of Abraham.”

The point is that the Lord can and will deliver us from disasters of our own making even to the point where we think staying in Sodom has its benefits.

His providence will prevail. (4/4)
