Facing Thanksgiving alone and feeling down about it? Some reframing can help it suck less but you gotta start now.
Basically the mental trick is to plan something novel for yourself, and start looking forward to it. Feel free to borrow liberally from regular ole self care tips, just make it something new and whatever level of special for you.
Get ingredients for a new to you meal and spend hours cooking it. Order carry-out now and freeze til then. Get some epson salts, take a lazy bath, spend time putting lotion on after. Clean out a closet if you're into that. Find a new puzzle and save it for Thursday.
Do any or all of these things while listening to new albums you want to catch up on (search for them now and get excited!), or a shortish audiobook (Their eyes were watching God is fantastic https://ohdbks.overdrive.com/ohdbks-statelib/content/media/85039)
Maybe sit down and read a whole ass play! https://www.gutenberg.org/files/844/844-h/844-h.htm
Plan a movie marathon with special snacks (I'm doing this ) Watch The Crown, Fast & Furious, documentaries, whatever.
The important thing is that you know yourself best, so do more or do less than usual, just do something different, and whenever you feel bad in the next few days, you can also have that to feel good about. (Still gotta accept that you feel bad tho, sorry)
If you are a scientific minded type you can also think of it as a chance to get data for what you'll do on Christmas, because sorry but you'll probably be alone then too. But soon you'll have information to make that day better!
Typical boring advice like extra physical activity being good and keeping it light on the booze also applies. Sometimes I delete sm apps for the day
But if you don't and you want to talk about something you're excited about, or Columbo or power tools or weird ass graphic novels or heist movies or electronic music or the merits of different mustards, hmu
