/It’s also performative and negligent. The public needs to know that all of the policies they’d like to see implemented during a Biden-Harris administration are in large part dependent upon us winning the GA runoffs. We’ll also need a strategy for DEMS to win big in 2022. https://twitter.com/david_darmofal/status/1330548062603927559
/I’m an advocate for thinking big, but if we’re going to make policy changes that truly create equity, equal access, and inclusion we have to start with strategic thinking and planning not performative musings that don’t come with a plan to create a pathway forward.
/I’ve given talks to burgeoning advocates who are 16 yrs old & professional advocate of all ages. My talks center around how we can accomplish policy goals. Most of the time people do not understand the political process of making that happen- leading to frustration & burn out.
/So, while I can appreciate someone saying we need to be bold in our policies (I say that too!) I’d also like us to focus on being bold in our strategic planning. Republicans have been strategically planning for decades now - that’s why we’re in the position we’re in now.
/I can already see some elected Democratic officials and some members of legacy media being harder on the incoming Biden-Harris administration then they have been on the Trump administration. This is a huge mistake - for several reasons:
/The media spent much of the last 5yrs normalizing Trump’s bigotry & abhorrent behavior; they’ve only now shown a small regret in this. They’d love nothing more than to move on from Trump; going back to “normal” meaning they’re going to go back to scandalizing every small thing.
/The media would love nothing more than to go back to the days where they nitpick every aspect of a Biden/Harris Admin. (like Obama’s tan suit) forgetting Trump’s daily lies, his bigotry, his corruption; they’ll try to bury their complicity in his authoritarian-esque rise.
/Not only will the Biden-Harris Admin have to deal w/media trying to tear them down— they’re going to have to deal w/the far-left & far-right who’re concerned w/their own rise/power. They don’t see a benefit in compromising - because they’re concerned with their own reelections.
/That might sound cynical of me but I’m hearing it in statement made on the left and right. To me I think we should continuously focusing on calling out the blatant hypocrisy, lies and disinformation on the right; while strategizing our narratives and policy goals on the left.
