Kudos to my former employer @porternovelli for firing it's client, the natural gas industry association--whose product is fueling the climate crisis. Shortly after I joined @porternovelli in the mid-90s, it was becoming a global company by acquiring PR firms around the world--some of whom had tobacco clients. I was appalled by the prospect of working for a company that represented the tobacco industry. 2/4
I proposed a company-wide ban at @porternovelli on representing tobacco companies & the tobacco industry. Our CEO, Bob Druckenmiller (who clearly understood right from wrong), supported my proposal; it was quickly adopted. This decision paid off rapidly, and in so many ways. 3/4
Within a few years, our social marketing practice was thriving and (with @cpbgroup) we won the opportunity to help create the highly successful "truth" teen anti-smoking campaign. Every member of our "truth" team will be proud of that work to their final breath. @truthinitiative
