But, let's talk a little about what happens if the President is charged and President Biden does not pardon him.
3/ First, to be blunt, the 24-hour news networks would see this as a ratings bonanza, and Donald Trump as the gift that keeps on giving, the likes of which hasn't been seen since CNN's coverage of the O.J. trial--which, among other things, led them to embrace a tabloid news model
4/ I mean, can you imaging the banners, the lead-in music, the endless stream of talking heads, the PAGEANTRY of "THE TRIAL OF THE PRESIDENT"?
5/ Meanwhile, there are a lot of things President Biden will want to accomplish. Will he believe he won't be able to get much done, will he believe it would be bad for the country to become obsessed over the televised & sensationalized trial of a President? And what about...
6/ And what about the threats posed by President Trump's willing blackshirts, who have repeatedly made it clear that all they are waiting for to start an insurrection and turn traitor against their own nation is the word from him?
7/ It's definitely conceivable that President Biden might pardon President Trump to avoid that.

On the other hand, maybe he and others, including Republicans in the Senate, may view the distraction as potential cover to get a lot of stuff done for the country that...
8/...that they feel is in our best interest, but that would not sit well with the Trump-loyalist base of the Republican Party.

But in any case...
ADDENDUM: After I had deleted the last tweet in this thread, it looked like the whole thread was deleted. I wrote an updated version of it instead, and polished the focus a little.

Didn't realize this thread still existed, but I'll leave it. But the one I wrote after was better.
