Every year, thousands of devotees sacrifice all comforts of life & walk barefoot on a pilgrimage to Pandharpur & reach there on the holy day of Ashadi Ekadashi

Last year, the newly imposed ban on plastic posed a problem for those devotees who covered themselves with a sheet of plastic
They were worried that will be fined 5000 per head
One suggestion made to DF was to exempt the warkaris from the plastic ban

DF said that this would be short term Act - let’s see what long term solution can be provided
DF decided to distribute 6 lakh raincoats to these “warkaris”

(& not wrong) to have his photograph or party symbol imprinted on the back of the raincoats which were distributed free of cost in an election year !

Just imagine the publicity - 6 lakh devotees wearing the raincoats with DF photo & BJP symbol & lakhs watching them on TV - what great publicity & chance to show off his Hindutva spurs !

He instead recommended imprinting Abhanga (poetic stanzas) of Saint Tukaram
It reads ‘Charanavari Matha ya Warkari Santanchya’ (I bow my head at the feet of devotee Saint)

And this is how DF solved a contentious issue without breaking any laws, without any compromise on cost or quality but in a nameless manner !
