Today is the 20th anniversary of the Miami-Dade "Brooks Brothers Revolt." It a crazy moment, at a crazy time, one I'm still so proud to have been a part of. But what we were protesting for is a far cry from the Trump machinations and bizarre press conference we're seeing.
In 2000, we chanted "count every vote," "Let us in" and "Let them in." We wanted every vote counted, not a partial recount, as Trump's team is now pushing. The "us" was the public and "them" we the media. We didn't want votes counted in private, away from the media.
We got some good swag, too.I still have my Sore/Loserman t-shirt and “crying towel.” Though those now seem more appropriate for a Trump team that refuses to accept reality.
With Covid, there won't be any reunion of the "riot squad," but I doubt there would be anyway - another sign of what Trump has done to the GOP.
Regardless, happy 20th anniversary to everyone involved in the Brooks Brothers Revolt! The world will little note nor long remember it, but that was something.
